From Jie Gu:

Hi ultimate players,

Last weekend, Box came to Kunming and had a great time with you guys.
As he said, UFO Club of the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China will hold the Second Ningbo Hat Tournament in April 3rd and 4th, 2010.
With the weather becomes warm in spring, it's a good time for some discs and fun. So, with attaching the official invitation letter, I am sincerely inviting all of you to join us.
BTW, could you please pass the information to all the frisbee players you know, many thanks.
To register, may I suggest if some of you come from the same team or place, it would be better if one representative can first collect the all the players' information and then send it to Forrest (super cute), liyanguan.forrest@gmail.com

For more information, plz check out our invitation letter and our blog for the great pics of first tourney and our beautiful campus:http://ningboufo.blogbus.com/logs/57596899.html

If you have any problem, you can reply this email directly or send an email to our captain Forrest:liyanguan.forrest@gmail.com

Hope things all going well.

These are from Ningbo-based professional photographer M. Scott Brauer, who played on the winning team, Dynomite:

More here.

More pictures!

Facebook albums -- again, we turn to Mary Carlson of Shanghai to start:

Party Bus to Ningbo Hat: In Mary's words: "Russian Monkeys. Hot Pepper Snacks. The Best Speaker System Ever. The first mention of the Boat. Incredibly amazing Pee Stories. Sara in a State of SEVERE emergency for way too long. And, some Burrows as Bus Driver."

Party Bus to Ningbo Hat Extras: "The contest of who has more GAME is now in full effect. Kevin Chao is the judge. The contest date has yet to be decided. Who will be named the Victor?"

Dinner... So Much To Eat!: "This was the never-ending Chinese dinner with some of the best veggie dishes I have had in a while. The best was the Teppanyaki Tofu, but my account. I ate with three different tables, so I think that I might be the best judge!"

Party Time: "Cold. Crazy Boat Dance Game that had Michael Burrows up on stage, and some fantastic Starbucks action."

Bus Back to Shanghai. Straight Chill: "Tired. Except for maybe a couple of people who had way too much energy for a Sunday night!"

None other than Huwa's Geoff Ng writing...

Alright, alright...we know "Ultimate" isn't the best name for a sport. Especially one that was invented by hippie stoners. So yeah, we do get a lot of flak for what it's called--one of our friends even insists on calling it "just OK frisbee". But Ultimate is actually one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and China is no exception to that rule. Hong Kong and Shanghai have held annual tournaments for years now, but since the first National tournament was held in Beijing two years ago, local-run tournaments have been popping up in Kunming, Tianjin, and Ningbo.

The first national tournament was in Tianjin, but... details, schmetails.

POSTSCRIPT: Congratulations to the team captained by Jon Greenberg and Alec Hutson, Dynomite, for winning the six-team hat tournament. Winning may be an understatement though: Dynomite went 7-0 and cruised up to and through the finals. We'll have pictures up later.

In the rosy afterglow of Kunming's recent hat tourney, Ningbo is announcing one of its own: March 27-28 (that's Friday-Saturday) at the University of Nottingham in Ningbo, China.

For 200 RMB (or less, says the tourney invite), you get:

  • Free food and water on the fields, free dinners, tons of free beer
  • Two free drinks at two parties
  • A tourney disc, jersey and bottle

Again, all that is for 200 RMB, or less than 29 USD. The disc itself is probably worth a third of that.

To register, email rock_my_way@hotmail.com with the following filled out (the form will look familiar to anyone who attended Kunming). For more information, email zliybxz1@nottingham.edu.cn.

-Name
-Sex
-Age
